NEW STATE RECORD FOR GOLDEN RAINBOW TROUT

Harrisburg, PA--The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announced today a new state record for golden rainbow trout caught, by Eli Borger of Palmerton, PA.

The 12-year-old Borger caught the 13-pound, 8-ounce golden rainbow trout in Mahoning Creek, Schuylkill County, on the opening day of trout season in 2008.

PFBC 2008 Biologist Report - Upper Woods Pond

PFBC 2008 Biologist Report - Upper Woods Pond: "Upper Woods Pond is an 80 acre natural lake located within State Game Lands 159 in Lebanon Township in Wayne County. The average and maximum depth of the pond is reported as 29 and 66 ft. Upper Woods Pond was reclaimed in the early 1980s by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), and the only game species restocked were salmonids. Currently, the PFBC annually stocks the pond with catchable and fingerling rainbow trout. The Upper Woods Pond fishery is managed under Commonwealth Inland Waters regulations (see page 6 of the 2008 Pennsylvania Fishing Summary for further details)."

PFBC 2008 Biologist Report - Conneaut Lake: "Conneaut Lake is Pennsylvania’s largest natural lake with a surface area of approximately 930 acres and depths reaching 68 ft. Located off of State Route 18 in Crawford County, Conneaut Lake is a popular recreational destination for boaters and anglers. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission maintains a public boat launch and access area on the northwestern part of Conneaut Lake."

PFBC 2008 Biologist Report - Lower Hereford Manor Lake: "On May 6, 2008 Area One Fisheries Management personnel sampled Lower Hereford Manor Lake by means of night electrofishing to assess the largemouth bass population. Lower Hereford Manor is a 45-acre lake located in Beaver County off of State Route 288 west of Zelienople. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission owns both Upper and Lower Hereford Manor Lakes; the Lower Lake in included in the Big Bass Regulations Program and the Early Season Trout-Stocked Waters Program. Lower Hereford Manor Lake is open to boating with electric and non-powered boats."

PFBC 2008 Press Release - Trout Survey: "Harrisburg, PA, 7/14/08 — The overwhelming majority of Pennsylvania trout anglers were satisfied with their trout fishing experiences in Pennsylvania in 2007, according to survey results released today by the PA Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC).

According to the survey, 84 percent of surveyed anglers enjoyed their trout fishing experiences in 2007. Only 13 percent were dissatisfied, most indicating they were somewhat dissatisfied. Ratings of the overall performance of the Commission among trout anglers were also positive: 74 percent of trout anglers giving the Commission a rating of excellent or good."

PFBC 2008 Press Release - Summer Commission Meeting Wrap-up: "Harrisburg, PA, 7/16/08 – At its summer quarterly meeting yesterday, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) voted to allow anglers to fish in lakes and ponds approved as year-round trout waters without possessing a trout/salmon permit, as long as anglers are not fishing for trout or salmon. Commissioners also voted to open 31 additional approved trout waters to year-round fishing (view map of additional waters)."

PFBC 2008 Biologist Report - Delaware River and Estuary Angler Logbook Summary: "The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the National Park Service, Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River cooperatively promote an angler catch reporting system to be used throughout the Delaware River Basin. Our goal was to employ a single catch-logging program for providing a record of catch, harvest and angler effort. Any angler is welcome to participate in the catch reporting program, reporting is required of licensed fishing guides who operate businesses on the Upper Delaware River. Provided are highlights of catch statistics for 2005 and 2006."
